2008 09 08 Notes

Meeting held at library. Convened at 6:10.

Discussed the chip seal issue. It is still not resolved. People affected by and concerned about this issue need to go to the seattle.gov to the customer service bureau and put forward a complaint that will then put a work order into process.

We discussed inviting Tim Burgess to our next meeting. He currently has a 12 point crime prevention plan— and he is looking for feedback. Ray will invite him to make a date in Columbia City, possibly our next meeting. Then we will try to advertise this far and wide!!! We need you to show up and get your neighbors involved. We have had quite a rise in crime recently are very concerned about further cuts to policing. Make your voice heard, by attending this future event or other hearings!

Our president, Chris will write a letter to the mayor and each city council member on behalf of the community council in terms of supporting the commitment to maintain the police budget.

There have been 2 home invasions with guns.
An attack of a couple leaving one of the Columbia City Businesses.
An attack of a cab driver in Columbia City.

Tips : Active Block Watch is a start.
Amber Campbell has an online blog called the Rainer Valley Post is a great place to hear about what is going on.

Tuesday night there is Southeast Neighborhood District Council meeting at 7pm at Mt. Baker Community Club. This is the break-off group from the Southeast District Council. It is an open meeting, but only representatives from groups will have a vote. We will try to get a representative from our community council, however we need to have a quorum in order to elect someone. Please come to our next meeting October 6, at 6pm!

We discussed the Sound Transit Sounding Board. We have three people representing Columbia city. Do you know who they are? We are trying to find out. The only one we know is Patricia Pascal. We need to find out who the others are and figure out how to have say/ and to mention our concern to have more East/ WEST connectivity to the lightrail. This is a huge issue- especially since our station has no parking.

On a positive note: Next Friday there will be five sites, creating parks where ordinarily cars would park. So come and check it out!
