Wellspring FS Launches “Kids Helping Kids” Coin Drive

Rainier Beach 6-year-old Rena Mateja has been collecting pennies to "help homeless" babies for three years. On April 27, 2010, she surpassed her goal of $500!

Musician Caspar Babypants (aka Chris Ballew of The Presidents of U.S.A.) was inspired by Rena's generosity, and so he wrote the song Happy Heart for her. And he wants to do the same for one lucky kid who follows her example to selflessness and service.

Wellspring Family Services has launched a "Kids Helping Kids" coin drive, and you can catch up with Caspar Babypants and the "Kids Helping Kids" booth at the Columbia City Farmer's Market on Wednesday, July 21st from 3pm – 5pm.

Wellspring Family Services, located at 1900 Rainier Avenue South, recently announced the launch of its "Kids Helping Kids" coin drive. Inspired by Rena, this grassroots fundraising campaign has put out a call to other kids in the Rainier Valley who might want to help homeless kids by starting their own coin drive. That kid could also win their own, original song by Caspar Babypants! Every donation turned in before September 1, 2010 is a chance to win.
To participate, kids must register at www.KidsHelpingKidsSeattle.com.

Each donation, regardless of amount, submitted by September 1, 2010 to Wellspring’s "Kids Helping Kids" contest will be entered into the drawing for a chance to win the song. The winner will be announced on September 23, 2010.

Children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population in the U.S. today. In fact, more than 2,000 children are homeless tonight in King County. The "Kids Helping Kids" contest is an easy and impactful opportunity for kids in our community to learn how they can directly help homeless kids find a warm, safe place to call home.

Since 1892, Wellspring Family Services has been a private, non-profit organization helping area families achieve self-sufficiency. Our services have changed over the years, but our commitment to a stronger, healthier community has never wavered.
