Join Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn for a house party celebrating the launch of Community Power Works for Home, a neighborhood program that helps central and southeast Seattle residents make energy-saving improvements to their homes and creates good, green jobs.

program details

Funded by a $10 million grant through the U.S. Department of Energy's BetterBuildings program, Community Power Works for Home will upgrade 2,000 homes in its service area over the next two years. By creating demand for energy-saving home improvements, the program will help create or retain hundreds of family-wage jobs and significantly reduce the City's carbon footprint.

Mayor McGinn will preside over the event at the home of Dana and Allison, early participants in Community Power Works for Home. Other speakers will include Seattle City Council President Richard Conlin, Congressman Jay Inslee, and Gil Sperling, senior policy advisor with U.S. Department of Energy.

Participation in Community Power Works is easy. Residents of the program neighborhoods can simply contact an Energy Expert at gro.skrowrewopytinummoc|ofni#gro.skrowrewopytinummoc|ofni or 449-1170. Community Power Works will provide:

  • A deeply discounted home energy assessment. Usually $400, the program provides the check-up for just $95.
  • Certified contractors to do the work.
  • Rebates and incentives to bring down the cost of the upgrade by up to $3,000.
  • Affordable loans with easy terms to qualify. Payments are simply added to the resident's City Light bill.
  • Energy Experts to help every step of the way and make sure the job is done right.
