Young Playwrights Festival

292[1].jpg

Join us on Wed, June 8 at 3:30 pm and hear professional actors dramatize new plays from South Shore School and Cleveland High School students at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center, 3515 S Alaska St.

The 2011 Young Playwrights Festival features professional actors performing the best student plays chosen from spring classes at Cleveland High School and South Shore School. The plays tackle some of the toughest topics imaginable, in ways that are brutal, funny, moving and smart. A question and answer session with the featured student playwrights follows the performance.

Student playwrights participated in a 14 session in-school playwriting residency taught by drama professionals. Each student writes a one-act play. Students' plays are then read by a panel of theatre professionals, and the best are selected for staged readings.

The event is free or $5 suggested donation to help continue this literacy program in the schools.
