meditation group

AmidaBuddha.jpg

I wonder if folks in the community are interested in getting together (at my house initially) to meditate together. I practice Vipassana mindfulness meditation from the Theravadan Buddhist tradition. I've been sitting for 2 1/2 years, have read lots of wonderful books and articles on Buddhist psychology and meditation practice, and go to a weekly class on Cap. Hill Friday mornings.

I'd love to start a small group here in the 'hood with like minded neighbors and friends.

I have some simple ideas for how this might work and feel able to facilitate a group sit as well as give simple instructions to folks who have never meditated before and would like to try it.

This is a nonreligious practice and is built on the universal principles of Buddhist psychology which the Dalai Lama calls "the science of mind". Meditation is helpful for focusing and concentration, lowering blood pressure and anxiety, decreasing depression, dealing with pain issues both emotional and physical, as well as helping one to move to greater happiness and fulfillment in life. The practice of mindfulness meditation helps us to be more present in the here and now, and after all, what else is there? smile.

I am not a certified teacher, but an avid practitioner, and would love to share what I do know and my home with others who want to explore the possibilities.

Probably an evening or sometime on the weekend would work for me, unless we decide on something early in the morning, so when you reply, let me know what days/times work best for you. thanks.
