four awesome shows this week
We've got a great month of shows ahead of us at Columbia City Theater this August, if we do say so ourselves, and it all starts this week.
We've got an Appalachian string band, one of Seattle's hottest up-and-coming bands and an all-star Tom Petty cover band, a CD release show from one of the PNW's most gifted young singer-songwriters & a free show in the Bar on Sunday.
Thursday August 4th: Hearth Music Presents Joe Crookston and The Macrae Family - 8pm / 21+ / $12
Joe Crookston is a New England based singer-songwriter who describes his sound as "stomping loud in minor keys & story songs & jamborees." He'll be joined by The Macrae Family who play Appalachian stringband music, with touches of early bluegrass.
Hearth Music is presenting another great show with us next week featuring Frank Fairfield, Red Dog (Doug Yule of the Velvet Underground) and the Water Tower Bucket Boys on August 11th. You can get a glimpse at Frank Fairfiled in the Greg Vandy produced short documentary that screened at SXSW and SIFF this year.
Friday August 5th: Sound on the Sound Presents Pickwick, American Girls and The Mallard - 9pm / 21 + / $10 in advance or $12 Day of Show
This Friday Pickwick will be celebrating the release of a split 7'' with Concours d'Elegance and Sound on the Sound will be celebrating 5 years of writing about local music. Joining Pickwick will be American Girls (formerly the Petty Party, still Seattle's best Tom Petty cover band) and The Mallard, who's making the drive up from San Francisco.
Special for the show, Pickwick made a public safety announcement:
Saturday August 6th: Noah Gundersen (album release), Goldfinch and Le Wrens - 9pm / 21+ / $8
Local singer-songwriter Noah Gundersen is celebrating the release of his new album Family this Saturday with sister Abby by his side.
Sunday August 7th: Drew Victor - 8pm / 21+ / FREE
We'll be finishing up the weekend with a free set from Drew Victor in the Bourbon Bar. Expect to hear a few new ones from the singer-songwriter, he's just begun recording his next record.
