Valley Vibes Jazz Concert

The Valley Vibes Jazz Series finale presents The Legacy Quartet with Clarence Acox and the Katy Bourne Trio on Friday November 11 at 7pm at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center.

The Legacy Quartet, led by drummer Clarence Acox, showcases Seattle's high-powered straight-ahead jazz musicians, including pianist Bill Anschell, bassist Phil Sparks, and a revolving roster of guest artists, including trumpeter Thomas Marriott, trombonist Gary Shutes, multi-instrumentalist Bernie Jacobs, saxophonist Tony Rondolone, trumpeter/vocalist Lance Buller, saxophonist Jon Goforth, saxophonist Travis Ranney, and multi-instrumentalist Jay Thomas.

Acox is the co-founder of the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra and a multi-award-winning jazz educator. His leadership of Garfield High School's jazz program has brought him national recognition, and he continues to be a mentor and inspiration for many of Seattle's up-and-coming musicians. A native of New Orleans, Acox graduated from Southern University and has been a key figure in the Seattle jazz scene for more than 35 years.

Vocalist Katy Bourne is jazz journalist and jazz performer. A recent finalist in the Seattle-Kobe Jazz Vocalist Competition, she's studied with vocalist Greta Matassa and has also been an improv theater artist and a working blues singer. Her recent CD, As the Fates Decide, was released in 2010 on Pony Boy Records.

A reception and post-concert discussion with Clarence Acox and Katy Bourne, "Seattleā€™s Jazz Heritage", follows the performance. The concerts are free, but donations are accepted at the door to support future jazz programming.

Presented by SEEDArts, Valley Vibes Jazz is a free series of jazz concerts and post-concert talks held on the second Friday of each month, May through November 2011, at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center, 3515 S. Alaska St.
