Columbia City BBQ contest
Hey Neighbors! Just wanted to let you know there is an amateur BBQ contest as part of the Rainier Valley Heritage Parade and Summer Streets Party - Saturday August 18.
If you want to join in the fun, sign up at BBQsummercamp.com.
I grew up in Texas but have lived in Seattle for over 2 decades. Recently I've been bitten by the BBQ bug and was talking about it with Jim at Bob's Meats (whose family was from East Texas back in the day, hence his pickled okra and quail eggs on the shelves.) So when I mentioned doing a BBQ Contest, Bob said "Well do it in Columbia City like we used to in the old days of the parade."
So let's get our smokers out and get to it! You can sign up at:
There will be prizes (and funny trophies with pigs on them, etc.) for best ribs, pork, chicken. And special prizes for best church team (like the old days of the BBQ contest), best west coast/asian style bbq, and best "anything goes".
Please join in the fun. It's a great way to spend the day (and avoid yard work :-))
Jack
