Columbia City Farmers Market

This Wednesday at the Farmers Market look for sweet, local strawberries, Japanese heirloom greens, fresh fava beans, beautiful heads of cauliflower, local hothouse tomatoes, asparagus and dozens of other veggies. Also look for early cherries and apriums!

Estrella Creamery has a new cheese: small goat crotin — rich and creamy. Fresh Gnocchi (potatoes and flour) from La Pasta. King and Coho Salmon from Loki. Goat meat from Toboton Farm — excellent flavor, very close to lamb, and sustainably-produced.

Music for Everyone

Parent and child music classes at the Lakewood/Seward Park Community Clubhouse

Wednesdays, July 2-August 13
2-5 yr. old classes, 10-10:45 & 11-11:45
Cost for the 6 week series is $65. Sibling discounts available

Music for Everyone offers music classes that inspire young children and their parents/caregivers to dive into music exploration together! Musician and teacher Jana Vitols has taught families since 1998, encouraging them to sing, play instruments, and discover the connections between music and movement. Music fundamentals are woven into games, songs, stories, and puppet play. Children are given opportunities to play instruments and dance, with the live accompaniment of guitar, violin, and banjo. The curriculum draws from classical, folk and world music and dance traditions.

Southeast District Council

The June Southeast District Council meeting will be devoted to transportation issues. Grace Crunican, the Director of Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will join us to talk about the Southeast Transportation Study (SETS) and to give us an overview of the capital improvement dollars already committed to Southeast Seattle for the foreseeable future.

This is an excellent opportunity for the community to get some useful info, ask questions, and share our thoughts with a Director of one of the city's major departments.

Date and time: Wednesday, June 25th from 6:30 - 8:30pm
Location: Rainier Community Center, 4600 38th Ave S

More info on SETS can be found at:

Light Rail: Before and After Photos

These photographs focus on the urban changes that have been occurring on Martin Luther King Jr. Way South. Old commercial and residential spaces have been torn down to make way for the new. The end result will change the physical urban landscape but possibly the social, economic and racial composition of the neighborhood. Please click the photo to see more (slide show version). Here's the non slide show version.
