BeatWalk

BeatWalk comin' up, Oct 3rd

South Seattle's only monthly music festival continues on October 3rd from 7-10pm. Another great line-up at our 7 venues, including our newest: the beautiful Columbia City Theater.

You can't beat the price: still a mere $5, kids are free. But don't let that fool ya — the quality of the music is first-rate. See the full line-up at ColumbiaCityBeatWalk.org.

If you're a BeatWalk regular, you can help us out by reviewing BeatWalk on Yelp. The more reviews we get, the higher on the list we appear.

You can also help out by volunteering, and our way of saying "thanks" is to give you a free dinner at Tutta Bella. Contact Matt Kelly at moc.liamtoh|55namyllek#moc.liamtoh|55namyllek to help out on October 3rd.

Columbia City Cinema

Seattle's Coolest Neighborhood Theater

Burn After Reading continues for another week and The Family That Preys, the best Tyler Perry movie to date, ends Thursday, Oct 2.

Starting Friday, October 3, is Lakeview Terrace, an interesting, suspenseful examination of racial issues lurking beneath the surface of your average harmonious burb.

Be sure to check our website for the most up-to-date movie information! Or, better yet, sign up for our weekly newsletter and get movie times delivered straight to your inbox.

See you at the movies.

Columbia City Farmers Market

This Wednesday at the Farmers Market we have more apples, roasted peppers from Billy's, fresh peas from Stoney Plains, pole beans in yellow, green and purple, and literally dozens and dozens of vegetables from artichokes to zucchini, all fresh from local farms.

More winter squashes are showing up too — recently at a wedding I enjoyed a delicious Moroccan-style tagine that used both winter squash and summer zucchini, reminding me that the possibilites for delicious vegetable combinations are nearly endless).

We've got live music this week from Trio Los Flacos.

Columbia City in the news

  • The proposed development at Columbia Plaza got some press attention.
  • In its review of how tough things are on Main Street, the P-I profiles Citizen Will Austin (one of his photos graces our front page).
  • Architecture critic Lawrence Cheek on Columbia City Station: simple, straightforward, all the amenities … but minus the facilities.
  • Meanwhile, they've renamed the BHN/SDJ — but what happened to the news?

Columbia City in the blogossiphere

Amber at the Rainier Valley Post says she doesn't want direct links from the Wikli's blogossiphere over her concern that gossip just isn't her brand. We still encourage you to check out her blog.
