Make MLK a Day of Service for RVFB

To honor Martin Luther King, City Year and Blaine Memorial United Methodist Church have partnered with Rainier Valley Food Bank to make MLK Day a very special day of service. Volunteers will hold food drives on MLK Day to ensure that the RVFB shelves are well stocked. We need more volunteers to help out!

  • When: Martin Luther King Day, Monday January 19, from 10am – 4pm
  • Where: The Safeway at 3820 Rainier Ave S
  • What volunteering looks like: Volunteer shifts are two hours long. You pass out a "shopping list" to people entering the store. Some people will purchase items inside the store and drop them off with you. You give a warm thank you and pack the groceries into the containers provided by RVFB.

Email Michele at ten.tsacmoc|tsiegniewm#ten.tsacmoc|tsiegniewm to sign up. Thanks so much for your interest. Hope we see you at the food drive!

Landmarks review for Columbia Plaza

The next Landmarks Preservation committee meeting is a re-do, as the last meeting happened during the blizzard of '08. DON has posted the agenda. They meet Friday the 19th at 3:30 in the Library. The first items seem to be cosmetic changes to existing structures in the District. (These are classic historic homes in the heart of the district, background is here and here).

At 4pm, the Landmarks Preservation Board's Architectural Review Committee joins the neighborhood committee. They're reviewing new development at Columbia Plaza.

We're losing the P-I. We looked, but we found nada for news. Did you?

Columbia City in the blogossiphere

Amber at the Rainier Valley Post says she doesn't want direct links from the Wikli's blogossiphere over her concern that gossip just isn't her brand. We still encourage you to check out her blog.
