call to artists - Columbia City ArtWalk

Artists in the SE district, we want your art!

Beginning Thursday, May 19, 2011, Columbia City will host a new monthly artwalk event, Bohemian Backstreets. The ArtWalk will take place every third Thursday from May through September, and will feature unique works of art, in all its varying forms, from artists around the Puget Sound region.

We particularly want artists that represent the district of SE Seattle. Additionally, if you live in Columbia City, wanna put your studio on the map?

A few of us are trying to help each other get prepared for potential disasters/emergencies.

We are using information from the Red Cross as well as working on compiling lists of neighborhood residents, special needs, special talents/abilities, etc. so that in times of need we can efficiently help ourselves and each other.

If you're interested in what/how we are doing call or contact and we'll share whatever we have.

Flamenco en Las Americas Friday night

A night of a flamenco at the historic Columbia City Theater, Flamenco en Las Americas, is the latest production of Seattle-native, dancer Savannah Fuentes. Flamenco is an artistic expression fusing song (cante), dance (baile) and musicianship (toque). Andalusia in southern Spain is the heartland of Flamenco, but in the Americas Flamenco is alive as well and it is gaining popularity worldwide at rapid pace.

local author Garth Stein at RVCC April 20

Next up in our popular From Reel to Real live event series is an evening with author Garth Stein who will be reading from his novel, The Art of Racing in the Rain and talking about life as a New York times best selling author.

A heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope, The Art of Racing in the Rain is a beautifully crafted and captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life… as only a dog could tell it.

Joining Garth will be the Cinema's own Paul Doyle, reading from his novel Nioka, Bride of Bigfoot, one woman's eco-adventure set in the Pacific NW rainforest.
