How does this work? ▼

When does the Wikli come together? All week long — Citizens can post to the site anytime. Most Tuesday nights we tie up the loose ends, so on Wednesday mornings Citizens get an alert via email, facebook, or twitter, which invites hundreds of local readers to check out the week's updates.

ArtWalk, Bohemian Backstreets launch party Community Arts Create will kick off Bohemian Backstreets, Southeast Seattle's inaugural art walk on Saturday May 19th. To gather momentum leading into Bohemian Backstreets, Community Arts Create will host a launch party to celebrate local creativity in style with live art and music. Patrons can sample hosted drinks and appetizers while mingling with friends in one of the city's most unique venues, The Loft. In addition to great food and entertainment, we will also have a number of fantastic items to raffle off with proceeds benefitting our initiatives directly. You can find event details here. call for performing artists SEEDArts and the Rainier Valley Cultural Center are seeking Performing Artists for Valley Vibes, a new music series focusing on jazz in 2011. Valley Vibes is an event geared towards bringing together artists and audiences who might not otherwise cross paths. Kids' Bike Swap: renewed smiles Bike Works' 15th annual Bike Swap benefits the local community and the environment! Bike Works, Columbia City’s nonprofit bike shop and youth bicycle education organization, will hold its 15th annual Kids' Bike Swap on Saturday, May 7, 2011, from 10 am - 4 pm at Genesee Playfield (43rd Ave S and S Genesee St). the theology of happiness On Wednesday May 4 Sustainable Seattle's John de Graaf is coming to Columbia City to talk about the Seattle Area's Happiness Initiative — a project to assess our city's wellbeing and to become the first "Gross National Happiness" city. trail crew at Cheasty Mt View Come out and continue the great push towards our new trail system in Cheasty/Mt. View at this Saturday's work party, May 7. We'll be working on clearing the trail corridor and getting the trail leveled and ready for the next delivery of gravel and we need you to make this happen. weeping willow coming down It seems that the renovation of the P-Patch at 46th & Lucile will include the removal of the huge weeping willow tree. As a longtime resident of Hillman City and lover of the P-Patch at 46th & Lucile Street, I was very sad to learn that the huge weeping willow tree is to be removed. My family and I have been looking forward to the transformation planned for this p-patch, we've watched some of the preparations, visited the community relations event last summer, and studied the onsite map of the new plans. In all of that time we were under the impression that the p-patch was planning to welcome those neighbors close by and welcome that participation. In the early plans it was plain that the weeping willow and neighboring plum bushes were to be protected. (A neighbor has since posted a clarification about this). — moc.nsm|zubid#zubiD aciM
