Let’s see how much Columbia City REALLY readsIt's a fact: Research shows that children who read as few as 4 or 5 books during the summer experience less summer setback, and research also shows that a summer reading loss of 3 months accumulates to a 2 year gap by the time children reach middle school. That's why the Seattle Public Library has offered a children's Summer Reading Program for the past 92 years. But summer reading is not just for kids, so there are fun incentives for teen and adults who read during the summer as well.

Rainier Valley Heritage Parade and Summer Streets PartySaturday, August 20 is going to be the biggest celebration in the Valley! We are opening Rainier Ave from Brandon (at Group Health) to Alaska (at the library) for peds and bikes. First the parade at 11am, then the Street Party from 12 to 3pm. Celebrating the diversity of 98118 with the Rainier Valley Culture Fest Weekend on Sat 8/20 and Sun 8/21: Seafair Sanctioned Event with continuing celebration on Sunday at Othello Park International Music and Arts Festival.
