Welcome to Week 158

of the

Columbia Citizens' WikLi

The Wikli is looking to boost its vitamin D while the sun lasts, so we'll see you again in the first week of September.

your Wikli-fix: clear out

Sometimes there's nothing better than a cloudless sky. That sun sure is enticing, so this one's a bi-Wikli. We're clearing out next week to bask for awhile.

Live locally.

You can post a calendar event — here's how.

celebrating summer readers

The staff at the Columbia Branch library are thrilled that the community recorded reading over seven thousand books this summer! We particularly want to recognize the reading achievments of our children, who took the initiative to reduce or eliminate summer setback by reading at least 10 books during the summer months.

We're having a community celebration with a special awards ceremony for all child readers who have read 10 or more books over the summer. Bring your camera and join us for food, fun and more.

Saturday September 10, 2pm at the library.

jam making party

The fruit is ripe, we've got a big kitchen, and we're making some jam! Come to Columbia City Church of Hope (3818 S Angeline) at 6pm on Wednesday, Aug 24 to can some delicious summer preserves.

Bring your own fruit from the market, your yard, wherever you can get it (or come to the church at 3pm to go pick blackberries in the neighborhood).

Everyone is welcome. We'll have jars, sugar, lemons and pectin — but please bring pint or half-pint mason jars with lids if you have them.

The Hoot Hoots, Pearly Gate Music and more

We've got a fun week of shows ahead of us at CCT. Friday you can get goofy with The Hoot Hoots, Gary Reynolds & the Brides of Obscurity and The Solvents. Saturday it's more a cry-in-your-whiskey type of night with a bevy of talented singer-songwriters: Ghosts I've Met, Pearly Gate Music and Dolorean. And Sunday we promise a night that'll be better than your Prom, with Prom Queen and guests.

weekly meditation

Anyone interested in meditation is welcome to this weekly session on Tuesday evenings from 6 -7:15, beginning September 6.

I am an ordained priest in the Soto Zen tradition and the leader of the Seattle Soto Zen community (seattlesotozen.org), and I'll lead the sessions. We will practice Buddhist sitting and walking meditation in a lovely home and garden in the Columbia City/Seward Park neighborhood.

Instruction will be available for those new to the practice. Cushions are available as well. There is no cost. Please email me if you are interested at ten.tsacmoc|hcrayellekj#ten.tsacmoc|hcrayellekj.
