Local effort to revive Columbia City Cinema

SEEDArts, Southeast Seattle's largest non-profit arts organization, has announced plans to revive the Columbia City Cinema. The cinema, which featured first-run films on three screens, was popular with all of the neighborhoods in Southeast Seattle. The area suffered a great blow with the closure of the Cinema in May 2011, and since then residents and businesses have repeatedly expressed a desire to bring back the movie house. In response, SEEDArts has been working with a 10 member Community Advisory Board to investigate the feasibility of raising funds to refurbish and reopen the cinema.

New Year with you on the Big Stage, Torn ACLs & More

We're getting the year off to a great start with lots of new faces and bands taking our stage for the first time and we're hoping to find a new favorite this first week of the new year. Maybe that new favorite will be you … we're taking karaoke from the Bourbon Bar to the big stage this Wednesday and it's your chance to perform under the bright lights. On Thursday we've got a night of gorgeous Americana and folk tunes. Friday night its an indie-pop party with Torn ACLs. While Saturday Ka'Dunk will be bringing the funk and Sunday it's all catchy cleverness from brand new band, Brite Lines.

Here are all the details you need.

Share your thoughts with the library

Do you check out books or DVDs from the library? Do you come to the library for story time, to use a free computer or listen to an author? Or do you come for homework help for students, internet access, research, community events, job search activities, or online learning? The Seattle Public Library needs to hear from you. The library wants your input on priorities for improvement in four areas: hours, books and materials, computers and online services, and maintenance. We'll also discuss strategies for stabilizing library funding.

Please join us for these important community meetings.
